Brutal. This is the operating word. The car handles the hard treatment pretty well. A crash (actually, we got loose on turn 3 and an over excited driver in an Audi) in the festival curves creates more drama than a drunk Soroity party, we keep racing. Numerous repairs to the electrical, exhaust, lights keep sleep to an absolute zero. We finish under power! Race organizers at the www.24hoursoflemons.com agree that this race at the Reno Fernley International Raceway will be a battle of attrition. With the high desert temperatures in the 80's & 90's, we are certain to see the heat affect both man & machine. Some have called this event similar to the Flugtag but x 100 on steroids, we agree. Our team leaves Portland OR on May 21st to begin our first 24 hour of LeMons event. We arrive to the track with high hopes and a decent running car. After a few hours we realize the car isn't running so well. Hood open, hood close, hood open, hood close. Car runs well, car over heats. Car runs well, car can't keep charge. Car runs well, car doesn't start. Car starts, car gasps for air. Car runs well, we race. We race well. Car stays on track, car makes up time. Team slowly starts to creep back into the standings. Team smiles & spirits are high. Race over. Although it is slated as a 24 hour le Mons style endurance race, it ends up being a 3 days slug-fest of man & machine... And we couldn't be happier with the outcome!
